I was reading this article today about why people don't finish games anymore. Though it touches on some good points, I just feel like I'm uninterested in a lot of games that I play. Am I dying?
Like most of us, I’ve been playing videogames for a long time. I’ve had a home system since I was about 5. Ye olde Atari 2600. Then when I was 7 I got the NES, 11 SNES, 15 N64, 16 PS1, 19 PS2, 22 Xbox, 25 Xbox 360, 26 Wii. The PC has been floating around since 1995.
The point is, I’ve been playing games for a long time and they have often brought me enjoyment and satisfaction. I would often be very excited when new releases came out. Often I feel like I force myself to play.
I’ve been dissatisfied with my gaming for the last 2 years. This was about the same time that I bought my Xbox 360, but I think that is just coincidental. I enjoyed playing it at other people’s houses, so I can’t see why owning it would matter.
Maybe its that I’m “grown up” or that I’m “too busy”. Those reasons are possible and contributing factors, but what could the major reason be? The reason that I feel like I force myself through these games is that I feel like I’ve already played any new game. I feel like every game has recycled.
Anyone else feel similar. Maybe I’m just playing the wrong games.

I have the same problem with completing videogames. I just simply lose interest before the end. Maybe it's just ADD. GTA 4 and Halo 3 were the only games I've completed in awhile. I don't think I would have finished Halo 3 if not for co-op though.

I completely agree with both of you. I've almost completely lost my interest in games that I used to play for hours on end. I also finished Halo 3 only in co-op. And the only games I'm even remotely looking forward to are Rock Band 2 and Fable 2. I don't doubt that I will enjoy Rock Band 2 since I already am a huge fan of Rock Band, however, I'm leery to the fact that Fable 2 may take dedicated play to actually get enjoyment out of it. I just don't have that time anymore. Right now, I have about 10 titles that I have yet to complete or even come close to completing.
What will be interesting to see is if we are still having this conversation at age 50 :P

Speaking of, I just got a 360. Better late than never :-P I have to pick up the wireless adaptor to use it on our network, but after I do, I'll have to get your gamertags, or however it works...

My gamertag is ag3mo but my 360 is currently red-ringed. I'm waiting for the price to come down on the 360s to pick up a new one with hdmi.

I want Fallout 3. I played Too Human, but it just wasn't there. Why they made a Diablo clone only 2 player is beyond me. Then again the simplest solution is usually the right one. Silicon Knights is retarded. You'd think a game in production for so long would be worth a crap.
Btw anyone actually play Savage 2?

I got a DS recently, and some imported flash cartridges to play...homebrew *cough*. Endless entertainment. Next on my list is a 360, but something tells me that'll wait for winter at least. PCs games are still #1 for me, and there are a few games on my radar now: Fallout 3, Spore, and LEFT4DEAD.

what's all this hubbub about the red ring o death? is it worth picking up the best buy warranty for my 360? why is this issue not covered under the standard microsoft warranty?

It is covered. MS extended the warranty for another year in regard to the problem. I'm not sure how much of that year is left, but the info's out there.

Yeah, I think it's been extended to a 3 year warranty for red ring issues. Other issues such as the PoS arbitrarily deciding not to read band new discs in the middle of game play are not covered. You need the ring!
